BCLS Certification: Your Partner to Safer Lives
Many of us have heard all about the BCLS Certification and how many groups are advocating for such classes. BCLS or Basic Cardiac Life Support aims to teach knowledge and skills needed as life saving measures in emergencies. This BCLS certificate is proof of one completing the necessary training course and evaluations given to get the certificate.
What does a BCLS course or module cover?
A training module on BLS will typically discuss the lifesaving measures that people can do in an emergency such as drowning or a heart attack. There is truly no need to be a high end medical professional just to understand a BLS class.
Will I need this class if I am not working in a health related job?
Many people think that the health related nature of this course makes it suitable only for medical professionals. The nature of the lessons may be leaning to the medical field but it can be taken up by almost anyone interested. Emergencies happen during non expected times and will not wait for a medical personnel. Such knowledge is an important factor in making sure that even ordinary people can perform much needed measures just like first aid in these emergency situations. When ordinary people are clueless, they will sit around, panic and wait until a medical team arrives and this is very dangerous. Waiting for medical help to arrive could make you lose the precious amount of time that could have saved the people in need.
Are there tests or demonstrations to complete before being BCLS certified?
There will surely be some tests and evaluations of learning before you get your BCLS Certification. There is a written test which aims to check your knowledge of the concepts taught in a BCLS learning module. There will also be a practical evaluation test in a form of a live demonstration to assess the skills taught. Practical assessments in the form of demonstrations are helpful in checking that the learner truly knows how to apply his knowledge when situations arise.
Is a BCLS certification a determinant of expertise in basic life support?
After these sessions, it is assumed and understood that you can do the basics of life support fairly well and safely. However, this is no assurance of expertise because it comes from experiencing the situations firsthand and in many instances. This is the reason why these BLS certifications have an expiration of validity and need to be renewed.
