A New Payment Method That Might Make Credit Cards Obsolete

Inside Contactless, a leading provider of advanced, open-standard contactless chip technologies, and First Data, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment processing services, today announced they have signed a three-year agreement to develop contactless payment stickers, which First Data will market as GO-Tag products. Within this agreement, INSIDE will supply the MicroPass payment sticker prelams only to First Data-qualified card manufacturers for their productions.

This agreement can provide a strategic advantage to the core technology from INSIDE Contactless and First Data’s issuing and transaction processing power. First Data will be marketing and distributing GO-Tag products to financial institutions, major U.S. merchants, and other distribution channels in a variety of form factors.

According to the general manager of Mobile Commerce and Point of Sale Solutions for First Data, the GO-Tag Solution represents an important measure in the evolution from today’s plastic cards and fobs, offering a bridge to the future of mobile payments. And that the partnership with INSIDE Contactless enables them to offer consumers a great opportunity opportunity to turn just about any personal item, from a mobile phone to an employee ID badge, into a useful payment device.

According to Charles Walton, executive vice president of payments for INSIDE Contactless, the agreement highlighted the versatility of the MicroPass platform to support a variety of contactless payment applications and form factors, including stickers.

Consider updating your restaurant POS system to Contactless credit card acceptance in the near future as this technology becomes more common in the marketplace. Customer service is all about speed and the faster we can process transactions at the restaurant point of sale terminal the better our customer experience will reflect on the value of our services.

What is a POS System?

Point of Sale (POS)

This can mean as the merchandising aids, displays and sales transactions.

In here, we will be talking about the hardware and software that runs the front counter and back office operations of any business.

For a small gift store, their basic POS system would consist only of a computer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, receipt printer and the appropriate POS software. For a service organization, like a lawn care company, wouldn’t need be a cash drawer or a receipt printer.

Although, they they may want a laser printer for their service invoices.

Then again, you have the ability to easily customize a POS system for your business needs.

The centeral nerve of any Retail POS system is the computer that runs the POS software.

We understand the temptation to use an older computer or perhaps those really cheap computers available at “superstores”.

But keep in mind, the moment it runs, it will be depending on these old equipments, so a good quality computer is very important.

All custom built-systems use high quality, name brand parts and you can rely on it for many years!

The same advice goes for all the other components.

Your basic cash drawer might be able to get the job done, but heavy duty models really are built better and will last longer.

A CCD barcode scanner is more reliable than the old pencil type wands, but they’re still designed to work with flat, easy-to-read barcodes.

Let’s talk about laser scanners, not only have a greater range, but they also have the ability to scan barcodes on wrap around bottles, plastic bags or follow irregular shapes which is much better than the CCD scanners.

Printer technology is also improving. The workhorse of the industry used to be dot-matrix printers, and they’re still fairly popular, but thermal printers are faster, quieter and reasonably priced.

Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS’s), or battery back-ups, are affordable and can keep you up and running during short outages and power glitches. Remember, your business will be depending on this POS equipment. If you plan to use it a lot, don’t hesitate to spend some extra bucks to get the heavy duty UPS models and units.

A retail POS system does not only give you control over your transactions, but it also puts a wealth of info at your finger tips.

Imagine being able to compare years or months to date of sales with just a few keys. A database of your customers can be a powerful marketing tool.

Easily track inventory list, automatic creation of order lists and adjusting quantities based on customer demands are just a few of what POS systems can do for you.

Al in all, a POS system helps you keep a constant eye on your bottom line.
